Occupational Title: HAZMAT Maintenance Technician Key Purpose: Treat, monitor, store, and dispose hazardous materials and conduct emergency response.

2.1	Develop and implement  emergency response and site safety plans.	Number Criteria 2.1.1  Develop an action plan based on hazmat hazard information.  2.1.2  Identify emergencies, alarms, and abnormal situations in accordance with written procedures.  2.1.3  Identify appropriate operations and maintenance procedures, plans, and manuals.  2.1.4  Anticipate equipment needed to accomplish immediate needs and unseen problems.  2.1.5  Follow written standard operating procedures (SOPs). 2.1.6  Working individually or with others, develop improvements in the reduction, reuse, recycling, or disposal of waste streams.  2.1.7  Safely and properly use equipment, such as drum crushers, hand tools, heavy equipment, monitoring and sampling equipment and instrumentation, motorized lifting devices, power tools, and pumps, valves, and meters.  2.1.8  Use appropriate health and safety equipment such as personal protection equipment (PPE), communication systems, eyewashes and safety showers, fire extinguishers, vehicles, equipment, and first aid. 2.1.9  Hazmat emergency plan developed in accordance with written procedures.	Knowledge and understanding of the necessary components needed in a hazmat emergency response and site safety plan.   Ability to use computers,  the Internet, and electronic media.  Knowledge and usage of appropriate safety equipment. 2.2	Utilize emergency response and site safety plans in responding to emergency situations.	Number Criteria 2.2.1  Respond appropriately to hazard information.  2.2.2  Respond to emergencies, alarms, and abnormal situations in accordance with written procedures.  2.2.3  Perform as a team member on an emergency response team.  2.2.4  Consider environmental consequences or emergency situations and respond appropriately.  2.2.5  Solve problems that develop during incident.  2.2.6  Provide on-site training as required while responding to a hazardous incident.  2.2.7  Post-emergency analysis indicates that national incident management  system responded appropriately to emergency.	Knowledge and understanding of hazmat plan in responding to emergency situations. Knowledge and usage of communication systems.
